You may have the rock format. This is also one format that has become even more diverse. With the advent of mixed and sub genres of rock, the format tends to fall within the different stylistic ranges.

There is the smooth jazz format. This is mainly for providing a relaxed environment. There is no need to even tune in and focus on what the notes and lyrics are. It is aimed to let the listeners simply relax and have good music in the background that would not be too distracting to what is going on.

You could go with standards. If it is not under the rock category, it may be played on this station. It could be the standard hits for the past six decades. Or, it could even feature current renditions of a standard hit.

You may go with urban. This is mostly targeted for younger adults and teenagers. This may play hip-hop, rap and rhythm and blues. If they seek to appeal to adults, as well, they include soul or r and b hits dating back 20 years or even longer.
