Methods Of Hard Drive Destruction

The Internet has become a lot more dangerous recently. Many people are now more scared of cybercrimes as compared to traditional thefts. This is because they know all the information on their computers can easily be accessed by a hacker. When getting rid of your computer, you are advised to use proper hard drive destruction methods to prevent identity theft and other cybercrimes.

Wiping or formatting the data on your computer will not suffice. Any competent file recovery expert will easily retrieve the lost information, meaning any determined fraudster could use a plethora of easily accessible software to recover the data.

Using other methods to discard your data from your computer might be considered. Depending on how much private information was on the disk, you might choose to use hydrochloric acid. This is a fairly simple process. You will place the disk in a glass container that will be big enough to hold the acid and the drives. You must, however, wear protective gear when doing this.

You could also decide to use a hammer to completely destroy your hard disk. It may be over the top, but anyone wishing to get the information would have to spend a substantial sum of money to retrieve the information.

If you prefer not to use a hammer, but still want to inflict as much physical damage on your disk, then you could use a grinder. It is a bit more extreme than using a hammer, but it completely destroys the disk. You won't be allowing sensitive information to fall into the wrong hands.

If you are thinking of selling your old computer, you should probably replace your disk drives. You may end up selling your computer to a fraudster who will access your financial information. You should also use a proper method of hard drive destruction on the disk drive, it may protect you in the future.
