Waterproof outdoor speakers are designed to function in moist or wet environments. They are typical in boats, moist exposed areas of residential houses like saunas, bathrooms, pools, verandas, and in open spaces like parks, landscaped gardens, stadiums, and parking areas, among others.

They are classified as dual cone, coaxial, components and subwoofers. These are grouped as wall, ceiling, cabinet, wireless, and garden. Designs and applications vary in sizes and shapes

Component uses multiple speakers for its high and low frequencies which are separately divided into systems. Coaxial uses two or three way speaker for its multiple frequencies. Dual Cone has single audio source divided in small and large cones. Its smaller cone is used for higher frequency and the large cone for low frequencies. Subwoofers basically are added fixtures for setting bass frequencies.

The garden types are most common. They can be hidden or designed as ornaments to blend with garden theme such as elves, gnomes, vases, and etc. Ceiling and in wall types are commonly used for spa, bathroom, or some other areas where steam and moisture builds up. These are included as part of construction design to allow exact fitting and hide wiring for purposes of aesthetics. Cabinet types are movable and flexible to be placed where necessary. Wireless types function without the conspicuous wiring but are used within range of transmitters.

Maintenance is crucial. When choosing, it is vital to check the waterproofing strength if submerged in specific depths over a period of time. Its sturdiness to withstand chlorine in salt water and pools, and its ease of repair overtime should be checked.

Today, there are many brands of available waterproof outdoor speakers in the market. Garden types come in simple and inexpensive designs. The coaxial and dual cones are sold in various sizes from cheap to mid-range prices. There are also the pricey and high brands especially marine components and the bespoke ones.
