The swivel ball is also poorly designed. When mounted in a vent, which notoriously won't be very close to you, the mount will not allow the phone so swivel left/right far enough to have a clear direct view of the device.
The vent clips are poorly designed, and have a hard time holding onto the vents. Though they have several teeth implying you can set them deeper in for better grip, only one set of all those teeth is actually aligned to grab the vent properly. All and all I am very pleased with this and would recommend it to any one; in fact I will be ordering a second one soon for my fiance's work van. I bought this mount for my HTC Evo about 3 months ago. Someone needs to tell the truth. I hope this counts as a verified user review. Vent mount works perfectly with my Droid X. I read that this product did not stay put on the windshield and the phone was prone to falling off, but it works fine for me.
The vent mount worked perfectly in my Honda Odyssey. My iPhone fit perfectly. I bought this after checking out the positive reviews from other purchasers. I'm happy to report that the smartphone mount lived up to the hype. After being installed the mount holds my phone at the perfect angle for using the Car Panel app on my phone for navigation and such. Also, this mount is much sturdier than most I have come across- a definite plus as most look like they'll fall apart in short order (and usually do).
I was trying to find a good car mount for my Droid X that wasn't too expensive, and I somehow stumbled across this product. I paid in total, with shipping: $21.91 The mount looks a bit cheap as far as the plastic is concerned, but it's durable enough, getting tossed into the back of my car whenever I'm done with it, and flying around on the floor after I've thrown it into the back.
I haven't used the A/C mount so I can't report on that. I've bought cell phone mounts before and they all turned out to be junk. I highly recommend this product, but just try to make sure your car model can use all of the attachments if you want the full experience. Rarely do you find a product with an innovative yet simple design. I took off two stars for the poor design of the clamps on the vent mount and the obviously harsh release button, but so far I'm happy with my purchase. Because of the way my particular vehicle is set up, I am not able to get this item exactly where I want it, but I can say that I am very pleased with the item.
I bought this "Universal" mount so that it could be used with both mine and my wife's smartphones. The reviews here on Amazon make this sound like a great product, and after using it for over a month now, it is! But I'd rather these small quirks than pay more. I got this for my droid incredible cell phone.
