But I did receive a notification (one of their popups) indicating that I needed to upgrade, otherwise I would not be able to get my transactions from my financial institutions automatically. I have been fighting with the new software to do exactly that. A man can dream. What I like or prefer over MS Money: * Downloads my 401k without creating duplicate entries like Money did! I clicked S for SunTrust and it told me my institution was currently not supported. After further exploring their list of "all financial institutions," I discovered that the list was completely empty.
To my surprise, and delight, Quicken did a splendid job loading all my accounts (and I have many of them: 8 credit cards from various Banks, 3 bank accounts, 8 investment and retirement accounts). In most cases, Quicken was able to set the online banking connections to my financial institutions. I don't know why there were negative reviews here. This is also good for small business to see if you're making a profit. It made certain aspects of its program unattainable. It gave me an either or else ~ if you want to use the update! There are various other ways in which it's not so easy to use. I'd say for people who don't go abroad much, it's fine.
I purchased Quicken 2011 H&B because I received an email from quicken saying they would no longer support my old version (Q 2008), and I wasn't all that satisfied with it either. So I upgraded.
It became abundantly clear that the whole process was broken, so I went back for a refund. At least I don't have to spend time chasing down little problems.
They didn't hide any menus/buttons, etc. While the software is good minus the online component, I can't in good conscience give it a good or mediocre rating for the following reasons: 1. I was fairly content with Home and Business 2008. The only reason I downloaded 2011 is because I want to access certain accounts that 2008 cannot, such as my 401K with ADP, my kids 529's with New York State, and a savings/loan account with Sallie Mae.
I have struggled with this software for about 4 months now. I had used Microsoft Money for many years but since M$ doesn't support Money I decided to upgrade to this Q H&B 2011.
It's a total waste of time and money. Well, this would be the third time I've had to "update/upgrade" Quicken. Plus, all our accounts are automatically updated, unlike Quick Books which requires manual input. If you don't have employees, Quicken is a small business owner's dream.
Well, I was very, very disappointed. It's just trash; I'm throwing it away and will have to purchase something else.
