We live in a neighborhood that has a fun contest each year to find out which family can put together the very best event for the smallest amount of money. Of course, all the usual things have all been done before, including a block party or two, pot luck evenings and a pool party.
Those types of events are fun, but they are not really extraordinary. This year we won the contest. I really wanted to come up with something different, and this year I found exactly what I was looking for, an event that was unique and different.
It paid off, as we won the competition by quite a wide margin, something that has not been done before, or at least not for a long time. We have to really appreciate all outdoor events in these parts on a nice summer's evening.
I live in Syracuse, NY. So the darkness of the outside was great for an outdoor movie. Renting a big screen was the best idea. We were able to create this outdoor movie theater by renting a projector to shine on a bed sheet that we hung on the back of our house.
I found a film suitable for families - that was easy - and I used a rented projector to play it on a bed sheet that I hung over the washing line. You can easily have an exciting neighborhood party with the help of a movie projector.
I am not good with technical and computer stuff, although even I found it easy to connect the projector to the laptop and play the movie. I would certainly do this again, as it seemed to be such a hit, although I might take it a step further and consider renting a big screen.
Of course, the movie evening was a big hit with my kids, and I plan to do it again sometime. Projecting the movie on a wall will make it seem such as we are really at the movies, so I am all for doing it again soon.
