There are two ways which an individual can gain knowledge about being a deejay. In both methods regular training is a requirement before and after qualifying. In order to keep up with the trend there is need to choose the suitable methods of learning. When taking a course in a collage a student is able to have access to different materials which help in perfecting skills. Some of the things taught include beat mapping, mixing, beat dropping, scratching and also diagnosing. The course takes a period of between three to six months depending on the college or mode of learning.

Since this is a field where a person gets to interact with different people a DJ is supposed to be creative always. When it comes to the real mixing it does not matter which mode of learning a student chooses. All that matters is the out put.
