The summer season and holiday season are when the studios roll out the films targeted to children. This year, more than a half dozen will be appearing at a theater near you. Among the most anticipated are the following:
Adventures of Tintin
This latest film from Steven Spielberg brings to life the Belgian comic strips that follow the intrepid young reporter Tintin and his dog Snowy, plus Professor Calculus, and the twins Thomson and Thompson. The cast includes Daniel Craig and, in what should be one of the holiday seasonâs most delightful turns, Simon Pegg as Inspector Thompson.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwreckedâ
Who can resist Alvin? This time, the Chipmunks are at sea, first aboard a cruise ship, then on a desert island. Adventures ensue, including a quest for treasure. The cast includes Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, and Saturday Night Live veteran Amy Poehler.
Arthur Christmas
Donât worry, mom and dad, this is not the Russell Brand or Dudley Moore âArthurâ (because a lovable alcoholic shouldnât be the centerpiece of a childrenâs film). This Arthur is the son of Santa. James McAvoy plays Arthur. Hugh Laurie goes out of the House to play Steve, Arthurâs brother. And two heavyweights of the British stage and screen, Jim Broadbent and Bill Nighy, play, respectively, Santa and Santaâs dad, Grandsanta.
Dolphin Tale 3D
Based upon a true storyline, Dolphin Tale follows a boy as he tends to make buddies with a dolphin that shed its tail inside a crab pitfall. Directed by Charles Martin Smith (who started out his profession as an actor in movies for example American Graffiti, The Buddy Holly Story, The Untouchables, and Never Cry Wolf. The cast incorporates Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Kris Kristofferson.
Happy Feet Two
Another 3D treat for the kids, Happy Feet Two features the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Pink, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Hank Azaria, and many more talented actors. Celebrate the holidays with dancing penguins!
The Muppets
This really is the very first Muppets movie in more than ten years, and it is extremely predicted by followers of all ages. This time around, the Muppet Theater is slated for demolition unless of course the Muppetsâ greatest followers (Jason Segel and Amy Adams) can conserve it. Look for cameos from Selena Gomez, George Clooney, Mila Kunis, Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Whoopi Goldberg, and a lot more. Kermit and Miss Piggy rule!
Puss in Boots
The cat from Shrek gets top billing in yet another holiday 3D film. This story is a âprequel,â set before Puss meets Shrek, and includes all new characters. The cast includes Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis as Humpty Dumpty, Amy Sedaris, and more.
Thatâs quite a lineup of holiday films for the whole family to enjoy. Look for some of the biggest and best-known actors in the business starring in kidsâ films in 2011. Also look for some of Hollywoodâs best up-and-coming stars. And watch for some truly terrific newcomers getting their first shot at stardom. It promises to be a Happy Vacation in Hollywood!
