Why Buying an Inexpensive Portable Flash Drive Can be a Mistake

Everybody wants the best deal when purchasing an item. This is particularly true in the business world; the cost of engaging in business affects your bottom line. Usually price is a main consideration. We actually don't want to pay too much for a data storage product, like a USB flash drive or a Flash card, especially when all of them look the same.

A flash device just stores information, right? The off-brand cheap product works just as good as the known brand flash drive, correct? The answer is, yes and, no! Both devices can operate in the same way; they hold the same amount of info. But that's where the similarity ends.

Not All Storage Items Are Created Equal

Let's look at memory chips, as another example. These are elements in the computer that are used as volatile memory. Your document is loaded from the drive into the memory in order that it can be edited. When you save the document, the updated file is written back to the hard drive for long term storage. There are three kinds of memory sellers. One will obtain memory from somebody else and put their name on it. The second buys the components, assembles them, and checks the completed assembly. The third type manufactures all the parts themselves, assembles them, and checks them for quality and performance. Obviously, the 3rd has a better quality assurance record, guaranteeing trustworthiness.

Quality Vs Price

This idea was highlighted in a recent shopping excursion. I purchased a bulk pack of USB Flash Drives that I had not heard about before because "the price was right". When placed in the PC's USB port, not a single one was recognized. A trip back to the shop and purchased some known brand USB drives that worked right off. The lesson was learned; the name brand drives were a bit more expensive, but much more trustworthy. A search online will give many product reviews, permitting you make informed decisions so that you buy the best data storage product at the best price. When out shopping for data storage devices, ask what you are able to afford to buy, and what you cannot afford to lose, re your files. That's your real bottom line.

Treat Data Recovery the Same Way

All parts can fail. When your data storage device fails and you need to have an usb memory stick recovery, ensure that you apply the same principles when shopping for a data recovery service.
