When you've mastered some easy melodies you can start to learn some basic chords. All the simple 3 note chords all comprise of the same note patterns. The first note of the scale, the 3rd and the 5th. This is how you shape a basic triad or chord in its basic root position. There are such a lot of songs that use chord sequences made from only 3 or 4 of these basic chords.
Step 5 - Bringing It All Together
The last step here is to play with both of your hands together. You might play easy chords in your right hand and a simple bass line in the left. Another way is to play a tune with the right hand while playing the chords with your left hand. After doing this you must now have gone beyond the beginner level and be prepared for taking on intermediate level material.
