Waking up in the morning after a good night's sleep can be very difficult to many of us. Most of us even drag ourselves from bed and in some cases continue to sleep which usually causes tardiness to work or to school. In order to avoid this, many of us use alarm clocks set at a specific time. Every modern alarm clock has a variety of means to stop slumber. Different models of these clocks, from the analogue designs to radio alarm clocks are also available in the market which buyers can choose from.
As stated, alarms clocks are primarily uses to awaken people at a specific time of the day. They accomplish such by making a loud-and often annoying-sound at a set time. Most alarm clocks are designed to continue making sounds until held to stop while others are designed to "snooze" for about five to ten minutes if unattended after "alarming" at the set time. Today, these clocks are not just used for the earlier stated purpose; they are also used as a reminder for tasks or occasions that needs to be done.
The alarm clock was invented by the Greeks back in 250 BC. A mechanical bird placed near a river is used to keep track of time. The rising water in the river, when it reaches a certain preset point, serves as the triggering device for the bird to release a loud whistling sound which serves as alarm to the people. This is known as the "water clock". This was also used by ancient Greek Philosopher Plato in order to signal the beginning of his lectures at dawn. Later on, Hellenistic engineer and inventor Ctesibius added elaborate systems as well as a dial and pointer time to the water clock which eventually lead to the development of modern alarm clocks we now know. From the simple water clocks, these alarm systems now have different types including radio alarm clocks, mobile alarm clocks, and many others which consumers can choose from.
The market today is encumbered with a variety of types of alarm clocks. Three of the major types of alarm clocks commonly used today are cellphone alarm clocks, radio alarm clocks, and atomic alarm clocks. A cellphone alarm clock is a built-in function of a mobile phone. With mobile phones among the most important gadgets today, cellphone alarm clocks are also among the most used types of alarms. With the various functionalities of mobile phone, cellphone alarms can be programmed with various noises and funny sounds to signal the user's preset time.
Radio alarm clocks, on the other hand, are alarm clocks designed almost the same as the traditional ones. That is, they are equipped with modern radio technology and alarms the same way as the analogue ones. They're only difference is the incorporated features such as date and temperature display, radio, CD player and other modern functionalities that differ depending on the alarm's brand and type. Lastly are atomic alarm clocks. These alarms use a satellite to remind the user of his/her preset time.
Alarm clocks, whether radio alarm clocks or other types, are indeed vital tools in today's fast paced world. Most, if not all, today depend on these devices to signal time that is often overlooked over the number of tasks that should be done. Hence, getting the best one that would best suit one's needs is extremely important.
