I've heard the clip doesn't reach far enough into the vent to work, but I don't use it. I wouldn't have written this review unless it was five stars or zero. The vent mount is perfect for my 2010 Toyota RAV4 (which by design has very few places to use an adhesive mount) - On the product site I viewed, it is the RAV's dashboard pictured with the vent mount installed. The suction cup holds well, too - I have to agree with a previous poster that this unit holds better than my Garmin suction cup as well. The vent mount works very well and stays put even when driving. I own an iPhone 4 and it even supports it with an Otterbox Defender case on it. Maybe for cars with soft suspension it does better. The shaking was non-stop as soon as I was doing 20 mph.
However, I purchased it on March 17th and it's already fallen apart - the plastic has completely disintegrated on the windshield mount where the angle adjustment knob attaches and the phone no longer stays in place. The air vent component still works, but it doesn't sit very well in my car and blocks the air vent completely (I'm using it with an iPhone) I can return it to the company for a replacement for $9 plus shipping - I only paid $15 for it at Amazon so that seems crazy. The other seller was selling the exact same product with only one of the mounts for an additional $5, so this is a great deal compared to other sellers. I purchased this for my Droid Incredible and it fits perfectly, with the Otterbox case that I have for it.
I can't speak to the effectiveness of the vent mount, but that's not why most people would buy this especially with the reviews stating the vent mount is not great. As far as windshield mount this item is without parallel that I'm aware of. The vent mount is just right for my Tahoe and doesn't need any additional tubing or anything like some might need. I am very happy with both mounts. Though it does not look as sleek as some other high end mounts do, the quality of this product is at par with them. It also comes with the mount for the AC vent but I did not try that out yet.
This product earns my 4 stars as I rarely give out 5 stars unless it's way above my expectations. This product offers a good balance of quality, style and price. This had not been an issue because the clamping mechanism is excellent. It holds the phone firmly in place. I bought a second one for my other car. Well-built cell phone holder, but it does not clamp down enough on the sides with a slim phone such as the LG Xenon. So, thumbs up for the safety aspect. I picked up one for my Droid X.
I'll just give it to a friend who has a Droid X and see how it goes with him. I really lucked out on this one. I've used it less than a week and I am not sure about lasting durability, though the product seems to be made very well. I cannot comment on the vent attachment or the dash attachment as I didn't use them.
