Indie Music: Strong Music Tested Over Time

|

By Ruben Walters

As yet another Decade has past and gone, there have been many characteristics that define the last Decade, News, technology and music have all progressed in the last Decade, but one form of music has stood the test of time, and that is indie music.

The indie movement actually started over a Decade ago, but its popularity just seems to grow and grow, unlike the alternative rock of the Nineties, or the New wave of the Eighties, which both seemed to just die off at the start of a new Decade.

Started by young up and coming bands that wanted to be different, indie music is still as strong as it was in the early part of the last Decade. Maybe it is because of the wide variety of styles in indie music.

So what is meant by indie music? Basically any band that did not get signed to a corporate label but released a chart record was classed as indie, although this does not apply now, as quite a few bands have since signed for the big name labels but still like to be known as indie bands.

What is for certain is that indie bands were out of the mainstream of music; this meant that they did not play all your traditional top 40 kind of music; they were a little bit more creative than usual.

With the Artists getting more creative all the time perhaps the indie scene will be around for a lot longer than we would have imagined.

All this creativity can only be good for music fans, and it should be interesting to see how indie music evolves from here.

Every Decade has its own music Genre associated with it, but this time it may be a case of indie being tied to a couple of Decades.
